So, yesterday was my first graduation at the Univ as a faculty member. I was the last to walk out in the precession. I'm junior faculty and our dept ended up being last. I wear a dark brown robe unlike 99.7% of my fellow faculty. One wears a dark maroon; another a dark green, the rest black. I stood out bc of my gown color but also bc of my placement. I was ok with it. I like to stick out.
Anyway, it was the first December graduation "ever, ever" as the president said. It was SO COOL FOR ME. The crowd was enthusiastic with horns and bells and yells and whistles. It was a true celebration masked in ceremony. I was honored and overwhelmed to be a part of it.
Now, I'm finishing up grades and dealing with an Incomplete and other sundry of tasks. I may be preparing to teach a Linguistics course in addition to the Persuasion and Logic course (and 2 or 3 Comp 2's) I have this Spring. A fellow jr faculty is leaving at semester for more cash and less crap at a juco in Texas. Oh, I also have to think about my merit pay form, too. So, to all you non-academics out there who think we get lots of time off - I'll chronicle my day to day "time off" for you here over the 3 weeks of holiday "vacation".
We clean up our own yard this afternoon. The ice has melteth and the snow didn't stick, so our 40 degrees is at least sunny and dry.

That's cool about the first graduation. I think commencement ceremonies are exciting. I thought that only my own would be cool because I was participating, but I went to yours and I was so excited to see you graduate that I felt like a proud parent.
We caught your ice bug here. It left a nice layer for the 8" of snow to fall on.
