a sundry

So, I like the dreadlock guy on Idol. I think he's got something. I don't vote, though, so I don't get an opinion. I'm working on a piece about using the Idol judges typical remarks as a writing assessment tool. This isn't the percocet talking, either.

The knee is jacked. I tore my meniscus - both of them and my acl. So, it's surgery for me. Then, months of therapy and recovery. My summer has been determined. I get to wait until school's out, though, so I can control the fact that this won't affect my students much more than it already has.

I hear from a variety of blogs that travel from 4C's was awful. I can't imagine trying to endure that and being gimpy...so I think I made a good choice in not going. And, my buddy Jen did a great job of reading my piece for me. Once the review of the session gets posted, I'll post the link here. Looks like I'll probably miss C&W because of the surgery, so that's 3 for 3 for me in missing conferences since Feb bc my body has been betraying me.

And, I just got my Intro to Linguistics papers in today. One of them pulled through on doing a silence/body language in film imovie, so I'm pumped about grading them. We chatted about them today in class, and I'm really thrilled by the topics. I'm PUMPED about how well this class has turned out in spite of me.

All my classes, in fact, seem to be going well overall. I've had 12 people drop out of about 80, which is a high percentage. I'm not sure what I could have done differently, though, to change that.

I've recently been introduced to Boondocks on Adult Swim on Cartoon Network by my students. I think this movement in satire to becoming more and more anti-PC is an interesting thing to think about in terms of humor in persuasion techniques within social commentary. It's nothing new, I know, but this subversion of PCness seems more evident now.

Your students imovie sounds FASCINATING. I would love to see it someday. Sounds like a really interesting class.

I don't know anything about the Boondocks, but I think the creator was on Fresh Air on NPR once.

It's amazing how much I can add to a conversation.

You may use Appotek (https://www.appotek.com/). It will not only remind you to take your medication, but your doctor will be aware how treatment is going. I think it is really convinient.
