Death, Surgery, and Vacation

We buried my brother Jim yesterday. It was sad and peaceful. Mom and dad are doing OK, but it's tough on them, of course. It was a long day, and I was exhausted.

Today, I cleaned the bottom part of the house...sweep, mop, dust, dishes, kitchen, vacuum, and laundry. I wanted to get a decent cleaning in before the surgery. Then, I picked up the upstairs and divided all our paper work into trash, file and shred piles. That took - I'm embarrassed - 2 hours. I had paper work from 06 waiting to be filed. To be fair, we JUST bought a real filing cabinet. I had been using a single hanging file since we've been married.

Tomorrow is the surgery at noon Central time. I'm supposed to be there at 11 and they say I can get out as early as 130 depending on how quickly I can get get out of recovery. I'm not scared in the least. I'm ready to progress to walking normally again. Then, pt starts Tuesday. I hope I'm not on crutches long. I'm clumsy enough without extra appendages. It sucks that I can't even have coffee tmw am. arg!

We stocked up on frozen food and stuff like that, so things should go pretty smoothly the first week and I should be ready to get out and/or cook after that. We have stuff to grill, too.

So, I should have plenty of time to blog over the first few weeks of vacation. heh. My primary goal is recovery. Secondary is to get to see the new Indiana Jones - priorities, I tell ya! Third is writing... I hope to get 2-3 articles out by August.

OH, and we're looking at moving to the town I work in after the spouse's work situation shifts. Looks like he can negotiate an 80% telecommute, which would save us about $400 in gas/month and me 2.5 hours on the road/day.

Hooray for the possible move! I'd love to get rid of my commute, that's for damn sure!
