I'm really excited about the prospect of presenting at the Southwest-Texas Popular Culture Association Conference in Albuquerque, NM with my friend Suzy...a new phd student at NMSU. We hope to talk about LOST. I'm talking feminism and she's talking "otherness". She has a friend who's joining our panel, too.
So, the excitement lies in seeing Suzy and drinking with Suzy and talking about LOST.
And, I finished doing my read-throughs of the alternative argument papers my Persuasive Writing and Logic class produced, and I am really proud of the work they did - really smart, creative, critical stuff. When my students do well, I feel like I did something right in the classroom. So, yay for my students and for me. I think I'll talk about this class at Fem/Rhet, if I can make it work with the theme.
knee news:
I saw the surgeon last Wednesday, and he said he liked the way my leg looked and moved. So, he wants me to work on strength, still, but not to get discouraged. I took the opportunity to ask him about some "forgetting" episodes I've had lately. I totally can't remember ever hearing "Alice's Restaurant" and the spouse says we listened to it several times goign back and forth to Ohio. And, I had a student come in for enrollment advising last week that I had just seen the week before, and I had NO RECOLLECTION of seeing her. I even got her file out, and I had written in it, and I had nothing to go on. These two things frightened me a bit, and so I asked the surgeon if it could be related to anesthesia. He said it was highly unlikely that this would be a problem nearly 6 months post-surgery and 3 months off meds. Then he asked me if I had HIT MY HEAD lately. I said "no" then "wait a minute" : see my post. Now, I've put my co-workers and my hubby on notice to look for other times I may be forgetting with NO recall. If these episodes continue, I may have to see a neurologist and talk brain bleeds. fyi: no new episodes...hopefully, it's just stress.
