So, as is typical of the holidays, the spouse and I drove across Oklahoma to family. First up to Enid for his family. loudness and opinions for 3 days and 2 nights. 3 hour drive each way. One night of peace in our house and then to my family for a half day of loudness, opinions, and dogs...2 great danes, 1 terrier, and 2 weiner dogs...my Norman ranks highest, of course, due to seniority and calmness. then ou/osu, of course...damn Cowboys and their 4th quarter chronic disease. today, breakfast with the spouses fam from Cali, and we're finally home. geez. holidays are exhausting. the good news is mom and dad are doing ok through this first holiday season without Jim, so that's one thing. They were obviously strung out, though, which is to be expected.
so, for me, there's 2 more weeks of school. all this week will be f2f conferences and then next week, portfolios are due and finals are written. I'll have alot of grading ahead, so it's a busy time for me. Then, 3 weeks off. I just found out that I've been accepted to the Computers and Writing Conference, too, so that's good. I'm putting together an abstract/proposal about the scholarly community in relation to teaching persuasion, I think, for Fem/Rhet, too, so I'll be pretty busy conference-wise in 2009. it's a good thing, too, since I had such bad luck in attending them this year.
I'm also thinking about putting together an Activist Rhetorics course to offer during Intersession for Spring or Fall 09. I'm really interested in the multimediated rhetorics of activism, and I know someone who knows someone who can come and talk to my students about his activism in GreenPeace...his latest jaunt was in China in relation to the Tibet issues. So, that would be cool...theoretically, of course. And, I'm obessed/fascinated by Whale Wars and sites like this, so...there's something else I can add to the abundance of texts for the course...
